Another great off road driving day.  This time for iSAT Limited  - www.isatnetworks.com - who travelled all the way from Farnborough to spend the day with us learning to drive a variety of four wheel drive vehicles off road.  Everyone had a great time learning some new driving skills and enjoying time as a team away form the normal office envorinment.  We always enjoy ourselves with groups like this. Great team, followed instructions, gave it their all and even shared their lunch with us! Welcome anytime at True Grip Off Road.[[posterous-content:pid___1]][[posterous-content:pid___2]][[posterous-content:pid___3]][[posterous-content:pid___0]]

Just as soon as we've had a look at the diary, we'll post any last minute offers on the site.  Keep watching.

Weekday Shared Two Hour Off Road Driving Experience Just £49 per person

Our 1:1 two hour introductory off road drivining experience has always been popular.  To widen it's appeal we've introduced a new weekday shared 3:1 course which is available Tuesday to Friday.  It is a shared course which means you will be sharing the vehicle and the driving with upto two other customers.  You'll get at least 30 minutes hands on dirving time, the rest of the time you'll be riding as a passenger.  It is priced at just £49 and makes an ideal gift or reward for anyone you thing might enjoy off road driving. See our website for more details - www.truegripoffroad.co.uk

Challenge Hub

Well we helped again at a Challenge Hub event - www.challengehub.co.uk .   This time it was the Moonlight Challenge.  These events really are something to behold.  Held on the North Kent marshes they attract an eclectic mix of people, from the mega serious ultra runners to those who just wish to do something different and challenge themselves to complete as many circuits of the 7.2 mile course as possible.  This time the weather was atrocious.  Heavy rain before and during the event made the off road sections challenging to say the least.  We set the course out and provide the safety vehicle.  This year I used our Toyota Land Cruiser which is shod with new 60/40 road/offroad tyres.  Perhaps not the best choice of tyre given the ground condition.  After the passage off the runners the ground became really chewed up and the Toyota did begin to struggle in a couple of places but engaging centre differential lock soon sortd out any temporary loss of forward motion!  Of course wheel spin was a big no no as all it does is churn up the ground and make ruts, it really was a case of tread lightly.  Next event is the 24 hour challenge and we'll be there again!

So what are we doing today?

That's a good question.  Rather than doing what we should, we are setting up our Posterous account so that we can automatically post information to our blog, twitter and facebook.  Well it beats checking invoices for sure.......

The Lada Niva is back!!

Yes, that's correct you can once again buy a new Lada Niva in the UK! Mark Key (www.markkey.co.uk) has begun importing this Russian 4x4 into the UK again. Although only available in left hand drive configuration this very capable 4x4 is well worth considering if you need a compact 'proper' 4x4. It comes with permanent four wheel drive, hi and lo range transfer gearbox and a centre differential lock (just like a Defender, Classic Range Rover and early Discovery) making it a 'classic' 4x4. No electronic driver aids or other electronic trickery to fail or lull you into a false sense of security. So what's it like to drive? Well we're impressed with it! We recently hosted Mark and a writer and photographer from Total Off Road magazine at our Kent off road driving site. With the exception of our deep water crossing we took the little Niva everywhere we'd normally take our Defenders and Discovery's. It tackled everything we threw at it or rather everything we pointed it at! Our only criticism, perhaps slightly higher geared than a Defender so not as much engine braking on steep descents. Available with a 1.7 litre petrol engine (LPG option available), three colour options and an on the road price of just £9,995 this plucky 4x4 is worth considering.
